"Single-industry towns need comprehensive development programs to level the dependence of the economy on the city-forming enterprise" - the results of the conference “Kommersant-Ural”

• 26 March 2022

On March 24, the online conference "Kommersant-Ural" "Single-industry towns: development strategy" took place. At it, representatives of the regional Ministry of Investment and Development, the Development Corporation of the Middle Urals, large city-forming industrial enterprises of the Sverdlovsk region and the heads of single-industry municipalities discussed the best examples of creating comfortable living conditions for people in single-industry towns of the Middle Urals and the development of industry, infrastructure, small and medium-sized businesses. The problems of single-industry municipalities and the prospects for their development against the background of possible changes in the regulatory framework were touched upon.

Most single-industry towns were created to solve state problems. Factories have become part of the Ural identity. The Urals itself exists thanks to factories. Cities are formed thanks to industry, and this is part of the DNA of the Urals: everything for the sake of the plant, life around the plant, the social sphere — only in the context of the plant. As a result of the influence of this factor, the economy of municipalities with only one city-forming, as a rule, industrial enterprise is most vulnerable to the effects of economic crises, competition, and population mobility. Single-industry towns need comprehensive development programs to level the dependence of the economy on the city-forming enterprise.
